Rhode Island Pizza Strips

Somehow this summer, we've gotten off track of what is important. A classic Rhody snack is the "pizza strip."

Bakeries throughout RI have this sometimes greasy treat - a strip of pizza dough with an almost tomato paste-ish sauce baked onto it. No cheese - just herbs and sauce. I've never seen itrefrigerated - it just sits on counters around the state.

Well, it's official. I'm craving it. On a Monday of all days. I'm going to try to create my own Rhody Pizza Strips tonight. Pictures to follow.


-addendum - made RI Pizza Strips at home - came close, got the sauce right, but not the crust.  All I can say is, lots of oregano and lots of paste.  WOW.  But...it was a taste of home, away from home.
